Guides

Short, plain guides to getting a footprint built and out the door. The fastest way to see how it fits together is to open the live demo.

Getting started

Building a footprint is an afternoon, not a project. You upload your spend, we classify every line into scopes and categories and give you a first number, and then you upgrade the lines that matter with better data. The result is an inventory built on the GHG Protocol that your board and your auditor read the same way.

Exporting your ledger

Start with a spend export, your purchase ledger, covering your whole reporting year. A CSV or Excel file with supplier names and amounts in pounds is all we need. Most accounting systems export this in a couple of clicks.

Drop it into the Collect page. Every row is added to the current reporting year and classified for you. You do not need to clean or categorise it first.

Spend vs activity data

Spend data is the money you paid, priced against an average for that industry. It gives broad coverage fast and is a good first pass, but it sits in a lower quality band.

Activity data is a measured quantity, kWh, litres, kilometres or kilograms, times a specific factor. It is more accurate. The figure is usually on the bill. Switch a material line to activity data when you have it, to tighten the number.

Reading your footprint

The headline is your total in tonnes of CO2 equivalent, with the reporting year it covers. Next to it is the confidence: a range and a data-quality signal that tell you how firm the number is. A wide range or a lower grade is not a mistake, it is the tool being honest about what is estimated versus measured.

The quickest way to tighten it is the Improve your numbers list, which ranks the changes that remove the most uncertainty.

Sending it to an auditor

When your inventory is signed off, the Reports page has an Audit pack: a single ZIP with the inventory snapshot, the methodology PDF, the exact factor versions, and an offline verifier script. Download it and use Send to auditor to draft a covering email, then attach the ZIP.

Hemera does not itself provide assurance. The pack is structured so your assurance provider can review it under ISSA 5000 / ISAE 3410.
